FAQs

Answers to your questions about e-tolls in Gauteng.

No. E-toll costs are like a tax that we must collect and pay to SANRAL. They will not influence our rental rates.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to replace the Avis e-tag in the vehicle with your own personal e-tag as the tag is linked to a specific vehicle. Please remember, the e-tag in the vehicle has NO VALUE when removed from the vehicle’s windscreen and, when damaged or removed, will cause further punitive charges to be levied.

You will be charged the 'e-tag' tariff, as published in the Government Gazette, to the maximum e-toll tariff applicable to that car group which are as follows:

  • Class A2 (Light motor vehicles) - R300
  • Class B (Small heavy motor vehicles) - R971
  • Class C (Large heavy motor vehicles) - R3,219

The majority of vehicles on the Avis Rent a Car fleet fall under Class A2.

In order for us to cover the administration costs to manage the e-tag compliance process incurred, a flat E-Toll Administration Fee of R35.00 (incl. VAT) will be charged in addition to the e-toll tariffs incurred.
